The Wild Turkey is the only species of fowl that captivates hunters the way big-game animals do and when the spring bear hunt was cancelled in Ontario, the Eastern Wild Turkey became the primary spring-time passion for the avid hunter. Now with spring and fall seasons in many WMU’s, Ontario’s turkey population is booming in southern regions.

Much like black bears, turkey hunters like to quote the weight of bird when talking about big toms but the truth is, the weight is not a reliable indicator of age or maturity and thus, not a reliable indicator of trophy status. Turkeys are measured based on beard length and spur length.
